Atlanta, GA (Vocus/PRWEB) December 1, 2009 — Why is it the most wonderful time of the year often mutates into something quite different? That’s what Jason T. Berggren, an ordained minister, former musician, and author of the book 10 Things I Hate About Christianity: Working Through the Frustrations of Faith wonders in a new article entitled “10 Things I Hate About the Holidays.”

In true fashion, Berggren handles the subject with humor and honesty. Topics he ‘hates’ include decorating, shopping, spender’s remorse, political correctness (having to be cautious about saying “MerryChristmas”), and even Santa. He notes the romance and nostalgia of the holiday season tends to get lost in the hustle-and-bustle. As a husband and father of three, he, like most, struggles to create valuable memories for his family while navigating his personal quirks.

On decorating, Berggren says, “I love decorations and things being decorated. I just don’t like doing it! The untangling of lights, finding hooks for each ornament, finding the one bulb in a string of 50 that is keeping the whole string dead, and pretending like I am having so much fun for the kids sake is all very frustrating.”

The writer notes that it’s hard, stressful, and tense trying to have so much fun and make something so special. This is why tempers can flair and small conflicts break out during the holidays. By the time Berggren begins to relax, have fun with the children, and get along with the rest of the family, he is saddened by the thought that the holiday will soon be over.

Like many, Berggren works to keep what’s important the focus of his holiday. He says, “I have to tell myself more than once during the holidays: It’s all about Jesus, stupid!” Berggren finishes by encouraging readers, regardless of what they believe, to remember what is truly important: add value to others, spend time with loved ones, and celebrate.
