Death Blow
WARNING: GRAPHIC IMAGES BELOW
Okay, today is going to be serious. This week some pictures came out that will turn your stomach. I have included them below for your benefit. Why will you benefit from these?
Because you should know that the FDA has mandated that the following images appear on every single box of cigarettes sold or every ad that cigarette makers run as a warning.
Now, I hate smoking, but I think this is ridiculous. I have some thoughts on this. But before I say what I think, take a look at the photos:
I find this outrageous. Why? Because it makes no sense.
Here’s are my questions:
Will the government mandate pictures like this for the states that are legalizing marijuana?
The effects of pot are far more destructive than smoking cigs. The carcinogens are much higher. In fact, they are up to 70% higher than cigarettes. And the peripheral affects on personal behavior via addiction and mental health are much much worse.
My guess is no, the FDA won’t do that for pot.
Why doesn’t the government mandate woman who are considering abortions view pictures of the different stages of growth of a fetus? Or even pictures of an aborted fetus? (Here are some pics if you’d like to see them. I just couldn’t bear to actually post them.) Or perhaps even of what it looks like when it is happening? Or pictures of the effects of depression that so often follow an abortion?
Not bloody likely. This would be ‘offensive’ and ‘insensitive’, right? Not to mention, it would be politically incorrect because it would be a statement about the morality of the decision and the laws protecting it…and we’re not a ‘theocracy’ after all.
But don’t smoke darn it!
What a warped sense of morality the government tries to legislate. That’s why I say GOVT- MYOB!
Just a thought.

I lived in Canada 16 years ago and they already had these photos on the cigarettes. I also found it funny that their cigarettes said “will” cause cancer. In the politically correct US the packs would say “may” cause cancer. In many ways Canada is WAY ahead of the US. They even had debit cards YEARS before they had them here.
As far as pot goes it does have benefits whereas cigarettes have none. And people some WAY less pot than cigs. A joint a day compared to 20 or more cigarettes is a big difference.
As far as abortion goes I think it needs to stay legal until the pro-lifers start taking in the THOUSANDS of children trapped in the foster care system. That’s what pisses me off about people like the Duggars. Why keep having 17, 18, 19 kids when they can be literally SAVING the lives and futures of children in need?
I was forced to have an abortion at 15 by my parents (and basically everyone I knew). I wanted adoption, but NO ONE was on my side. It truly was the worst thing I ever went through and it has negatively influenced my life every since and it has been 20 years, That said, I still think others should have that option available because only they can make the judgment call. Thankfully with the internet girls have more options available now.
I wish pro-lifers would stop making the moms feel shittier then they already do and instead of being anti abortion be PRO-Adoption. Right now all I hear is if you have an abortion you are a murderer. How does that help? Provide alternatives, not judgments.
Well, I appreciate how ‘enlightened’ Canada is, I am not fan of big centralized government. The idea that some distant, unelected, group of bureaucrats tell us all how to live while they themselves don’t actually live by their own standards has no appeal to me. That’s why I am for more freedom and limited government.
I am very sorry for the situation you went through as a teen. That is truly awful. And yes, I am very much pro-adoption. In fact, my wife and I often talk about how we could adopt a child because we believe in it. But for now, we just can’t make the step (for many reasons). Maybe one day.
